Junior Challenge Match |

The inaugural Georgia-South Carolina Girls’ Junior Challenge Match took place July 29-30 at The Landings Club in Savannah, Georgia. Sponsored by the WSCGA Vicki Hillen Junior Golf Foundation, the matches bring together the top junior girl golfers in the two neighboring states. Teams are composed of the top four finishers from each state’s 2006 Girls’ Championship. The two-day event consists of four singles matches per day. Each match was worth one point, and both teams are awarded a half point for matches that are all square after 18 holes. Playing for the honor of holding The Karen Ferree Trophy for the year, the South Carolina team was represented by Junior Girls’ Champion Taylor Weaver of Spartanburg, Elizabeth Freeman of Anderson, Rachel Uremovich from Hilton Head and Taylor Barrett from York. Playing for the Georgia team were Tess Fordham of Metter, Blaire Minter from Marietta, Carrie Metz of Carnesville, and Emilie Burger from Hoschton. Georgia led by one point (2 ½ to 1 ½) going into the final round, but our South Carolina girls came out strong Sunday and posted three straight wins, to move ahead for the team victory. |
