Cat Island, SC
Mallory Hetzel of Summerville captured the 2002 Girls Junior Championship at South Carolina National Golf Club on Cat Island. Her second round, five-under 67, a WSCGA Junior record and competitive best for Mallory, vaulted her 12 shots ahead of the pack with only 18 holes to play. She cruised home with a 79 in the final round and finished 11 shots ahead of the defending champion Laura Crawford of Lancaster, who could not muster a challenge. Hetzel finished the 54-hole event with a 219 total (73-67-79). The course played to a par-72 at 5774 yards.
The Women’s South Carolina Golf Association would like to thank all of the players, and the South Carolina Golf Club for hosting the event. The girls were lucky to be able to enjoy such a beautiful and well-conditioned course.
