MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

Rachel Uremovich, age 13 of Hilton Head Island, knew that she would have to play steady golf to become the youngest champion ever of the WSCGA Match Play Championship. Uremovich got off to a fast start defeating 3 other Hilton Head Island residents. Louanne Gonsalves, Karen Ferree and Niki Sutherland all were eliminated by the long hitting teen.
For the final match it was youth versus experience. Rachel defeated the 3-time match play champion Lea Anne Brown of Mount Pleasant 4&3. Uremovich took a commanding 3 up lead after 6 holes but Brown fought back to narrow the gap only to lose it again before the turn. Each player showed their strength, but it was an 18 ft birdie putt on the 15th hole that sealed the deal for Rachel Uremovich.
The low 16 from the qualifying round, made up the division 1 Championship flight of the tournament.
