Champions Prevail
The teams of Lea Anne Brown and Bill Smunk and Chris and Ben Shadoan are the
2006 Mixed Team Champions in their respective divisions.
In the Championship Division, Brown from Mt. Pleasant and Smunk from Kingstree
shot a two day total of 146 and needed extra holes to capture their first Mixed
Team Championship as a team. Brown has won the previous two years with partner
Bubba Hightower. A birdie on the first playoff hole by Smunk defeated the second
place team of Lea and Shawn Venable from Simpsonville.
Chris and Ben Shadoan, both from Taylors, shot a final round score of 77 for
a total of 150 and two shot victory in the Senior Division. This is the Shadoan’s
fourth victory in the Mixed Team Championship.
The 2006 SCGA~WSCGA Mixed Team Championship was played on the par 72, Tom Jackson
designed Links at Stoney Point Golf Course in Greenwood, SC. The field consisted
of 80 man and woman teams split into Championship and Senior Divisions. The
Mixed Team Championship is conducted by both the Women’s South Carolina Golf
Association and the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 9th year of
existence.
