2007 Stroke Play Championship

Donna Gonsalves captured her first WSCGA Stroke Play Championship by winning the 2007 championship played at the 5896 yard Oldfield Golf Club in Okatie. Donna finished with an 80, after two rounds of 73 and 74, giving her a 54-hole total of 227 and her third WSCGA crown of the year. She also won the Match Play title in June and teamed with Karen Ferree to win the Team Championship in March.

Going into the final round, Gonsalves held a six-shot lead over defending champion Lea Venable, and she maintained a five-shot advantage through 11 holes on Thursday. But Donna hit her tee shots at the par-4 12^th and the par-3 13^th into water hazards, leading to consecutive double bogeys that allowed Venable to close within two shots. Lea wasn’t able to take advantage when she gave two shots back after knocking her tee shot at the par 4-14th in the hazard resulting in a double-bogey. Venable finished second and former WSCGA Junior champion Taylor Weaver finished third. Wallace Hamerton and Kristine Berger tied for fourth.

Deborah Beasley of Greer won the State Division by seven shots over Teddy Stockwell from John’s Island. Beasley was in control throughout the 54 holes and finished with a three-day total of 242. Nancy Fitzgibbons from Bluffton finished third and Frankie Garber from Florence was the fourth place finisher.

Deborah Beasley was also the overall net winner of the Riccoboni Trophy with a two day net total of 212.

Kimberley Case from Rock Hill was the winner of Flight 2 in the Championship Division with Christy Fulmer and Lucille Ray finishing tied for second. In fourth place was Karen Zeip. In the State division, Marilyn Decko from Kiawah finished first with Kay Hall from Greenville second, Jessie Finucan from Summerville third, and Barbara Crowe finished in fourth place.
