The
Chester Golf Club is located in rural Chester
County only minutes from Columbia. The golf
course opened in 1971, and was designed by well
know architect Russell Breeden. The course is
surrounded by forest land and an abundance of
wildlife. Chester has received a designation
as a Certified Audubon Sanctuary.
The large Bent grass greens offer a smooth,
but testing putting surface. The tree lined
Bermuda grass fairways further insure that golfers
of all skill levels will have a challenging,
but fun round of golf. The signature hole, number
12 is a par 5 that requires two shots over water
and a shot to the green that has water on three
sides. The forward tees for women are measured
at 5350 yards.

Midland
Valley was designed by Ellis Maples and built
in 1961. The course features towering pines,
significant terrain changes, large, undulating
Bermuda grass greens, and plenty of up and down
side-hill lies. The course plays 5542 years
from the forward tees.
One of its signature holes, #3 – is a par 4
playing 245 yards. Don’t be fooled by the length.
A deep bunker guarding the green makes this
hole a challenge for both long and shorter hitters!
Midland Valley has served as the host to many
major championships including the 2002 WSCGA
Stroke Play Championship.

Island - Cotton Dike Course
Site of the September 14, 2010 One-Day Golf Tournament
|
 |
The
Cotton Dike course was created by Tom Fazio –
famed for his design of waterfront challenges.
A collection of dikes, created for 18th century
plantation cotton fields, influence the Cotton
Dike course. Jenkins Creek flows by nearly half
of the 18 holes, between emerald fields and fairways.
The course plays 5,147 yards from the forward
tees.
“From a playability standpoint,” Fazio says, “the
seventh hole offers numerous options as a three-shot
hole or as a reachable par-five for long hitters,
and if the golfer avoids the forest on the right
and the lagoons on the left, a birdie is a distinct
possibility.”
