With
an eighty percent prediction of rain the prayers to
above were answered and the rain gave way to beautiful
blue skies for the 5th Vicki Hillen Tribute at the Cliffs
at Glassy. Fourteen teams made their way to Glassy Mountain
for a full day of golf, wonderful food and fun to help
raise money for the WSCGA Vicki Hillen Junior Golf Foundation.
Five years ago, the Cliff’s Communities and the Ladies
Golf Association saw a need to help promote junior golf.
They organized a golf club drive, sponsored juniors
at events, offered clinics at the Cliff courses and
offered the use of their golf course for a tournament
to benefit the WSCGA Junior Golf Foundation. Thus the
Vicki Hillen Tribute was born.
On this special day, the teams participated in a two
best ball of the foursome shamble. Each player drove
their tee shot and then after the best drive was selected
they played their own individual ball until it was holed
out.
The Low Net team winners were: June Wang and Cathy Crump
of Cowan’s Ford, Beverly McClure of West Port and Tracy
Spillance of Olde Sycamore Golf Club.
Winning the Low Gross team prize were Kimberly Case,
Mary Chamberlin, Joy Figueredo, and Jeannie Dunk all
of Rock Hill South Carolina.
Along the way on this scenic mountain venue, they participated
in four closest to the pin contests. The four special
winners were: Kimberly Case, Mary Sudzina, Gail Doran
and Bev McClure. The winners were all presented with
a Cliffs at Glassy golf towel.
Twenty –two raffle items were drawn for after lunch.
With the generosity of the players, items ranged from
golf bags to gourmet food baskets and everything else
in between. We can’t thank the players enough for their
generosity and creativity in making the raffle so exciting
and helping raise additional monies to benefit the foundation.
The grand prize item which was donated by the Cliffs
Communities was a round of golf for 4 players to any
of the Cliffs Properties and was won by Dianne Smith
of Daniel Island.
The biggest winner of the day was the WSCGA Vicki Hillen
Junior Golf Foundation. The proceeds of this event provide
financial assistance to junior golfers and their families
to help offset some of the expenses associated with
junior golf. It also helps fund the WSCGA Junior Girls
Championship and sponsors the Georgia/South Carolina
Challenge Matches. This popular event is played every
year and features the top four finishers of each association’s
junior championship.
The WSCGA Junior Golf Foundation would like to thank
the Golf Professional Staff at the Cliff’s at Glassy,
Mr. Geoff Carey of the Cliff’s Community Association
and the food and beverage people for their southern
hospitality. A very special thanks goes to all of the
volunteers who spent their day on the golf course assisting
us. Enough can’t be said about Laura Johnson for whom
the success of this tournament would not be possible
without her commitment, devotion and heart.
On behalf of the Women’s South Carolina Vicki Hillen
Junior Golf Foundation, the Board of Trustees, and the
junior golfers, thank you to the players, volunteers
and the Cliffs Community for your dedication to the
junior girl golfers of South Carolina.
