2010 Match Play Champion Dawn Woodard

Cat Island, SC Dawn Woodard picked up her third consecutive WSCGA Championship title by winning the 2010 Match Play Championship that was played at Sanctuary Golf Club on Cat Island, SC. This current win follows her wins of the Stroke Play Championship at Seabrook Island in September of 09, and the Team Championship in March at Woodside. Woodard’s opponent, Courtney Boe from Hilton Head got off to a great start with a birdie to win the first hole but pulled back all square with a 3 putt on number two. The match was all square until Woodard birdied the par four 9th hole to go 1 up at the turn. Dawn had been as many as two up after a birdie at # 11, but she three-putted # 12 and 15 and the match was all square.

The putting mistakes created an opening for Boe, who hit her first 16 greens. She grabbed a 1 up lead after dropping a 12 foot putt on the par-3 16th hole. The birdie and the lead were both firsts for Boe since the opening hole. Boe’s iron shot off # 17 tee found a waste bunker on the right side. She punched out short of the green, the first she missed in regulation. Woodard’s par squared the match with a par as they headed to # 18. Woodard sunk her 10 foot birdie putt. Boe had a shorter birdie attempt than Woodard to extend the match, but her 9-foot putt slid by the right edge.
