WSCGA
Team Championship
March (24) 25-26, 2010 With
the first event held in March of 1996, the WSCGA Team
Championship was created to have a fun partner event
to open the new golf season. Throughout the years,
the Team Championship has become one of the WSCGA’s
favorite events. Participants play 36 holes of stroke
play. The field is made up of 64 teams with the lowest
combined handicap-index. The first 18 holes are played
using the Four-Ball Format (better known as best-ball)
and the second 18 holes are played as a modified alternate
shot. The total of the two days scores will determine
the winner.

Beginning
in 2010, the WSCGA will be awarding Player
of the Year Awards in three categories: Women’s
Player of the Year, Senior Women’s Player of the Year,
and Girls’ Junior Player of the Year. We will
be awarding points determined by the players finish
in selected competitions including WSCGA events,
Carolinas events, and Regional and National events.
If you would like to submit your playing record for
2009, we will be glad to accept it.

The
Jane Covington Classic will be held May
10th at the newly renovated Orangeburg Country
Club. The event is a Captains Choice Format and is open
to all golfers. This annual event benefits the WSCGA
Vicki Hillen Junior Golf Foundation. Entries
will be available soon.

Sanctuary
Golf Club located on Cat Island in Beaufort, will host the
Women’s South Carolina Golf Associations 2010 Match Play
Championship.
The Match Play tournament, a long-standing Championship,
has been held on Lady’s Island for the past 30 years and
graciously hosted by Walton Horton and Jeanne Campbell since
1978. The WSCGA Board has committed to continue the Match
Play Championship and will work hard to attract a big field
for the 2010 event in the South Carolina low-country. Adequate
notice of the details will be distributed in the near future.
Sanctuary Golf Club, originally designed by George W. Cobb,
was refined by Jeff Brauer in 2008. The course offers stunning
landscapes with large rolling greens, beautiful vistas and
tree-lined fairways designed and shaped from the natural
angles of the regions’ low-country. Featuring a beautiful
18 holes of play, the course uses strategic bunker placement
and wonderfully defined fairways creating a challenge on
many holes. The forward, middle and back women’s teeing
grounds measure from 4974 to 5686 with a longer yardage
of 6194.
