The inaugural Carolyn Cudone Invitational
was held at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club
on November 13, 2007 to honor one of the great champions of
women’s Golf.
Lea Anne Brown of Mount Pleasant shot a 5-over par
77 to win by two shots over 2nd place finisher
Jeannette Godwin of Pawleys Island in the first
playing of this event. The overall low net winner on the
5,400 Robert Trent Jones design was Betty
Christopher of Myrtle Beach with a 78.
Other gross winners in the 47-player tournament included
Jeannette Godwin in the first flight with a 79, Jeannie
Hillock of Kiawah Island in the second flight with an 86,
and Jocelyn Burg of Columbia in the third flight with a 104.
Low net winners were Russell Holliday of Myrtle Beach in the
championship flight with a 75, Inga Ivey in the second
flight with a 75, and Evelyn Brandon of Myrtle Beach in the
third flight with a 79.
The contest winners were: Closest to the
hole # 9 - Sookie Harris, closest to hole #17 -Kim Abbott.
Longest drive # 7 - Diane Belair, longest drive # 14 - Mary
Chamberlin.
The day ended with a tribute to the honoree as Chief
Justice Jean Toal, a guest speaker, outlined
Mrs. Cudone’s many golfing accomplishments
and her love for junior golfers.
The tournament benefited the Vicki Hillen Junior
Golf Foundation, which is operated through the
Women’s South Carolina Golf Association.
The WSCGA Vicki Hillen Golf Foundation
would like to thank the Dunes Golf and Beach Club
for hosting this event and to our many sponsors who helped
make this tournament a huge success. A special thank you to
Mrs. Cudone for all she has done to inspire junior
golfers and dedicating her time and talents to see that
every child has the opportunity to play the game of golf.
