2009 WSCGA JUNIOR GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP - FINAL RESULTS

Charleston resident 17 year old Katie Rose Higgins won her first South Carolina Junior Girls’ Amateur Championship played at Yeamans Hall Club in Charleston. A calm and relaxed Higgins started Friday’s final round with a one shot lead over Maureen Dunnagan and McKenzie Talbert. Katie Rose admitted that she had a slow start on the front nine, but felt confident that her game would come around. On the ninth hole, Higgins hit her approach shot to within an inch of the flag and tapped in for a birdie. Heading into the final nine with momentum, Katie Rose proceeded to birdie five of her final 10 holes and shot 32 on the back nine for a career tying 2-under 70 and a six shot victory over McKenzie Talbert of N. Augusta.  Maureen Dunnagan won the 16-18 age group with a 225 total, one shot in front of Elizabeth Thompson of Charleston. Kim Herring of North Augusta was third.    Collins Bradshaw was the winner of the 13-15 age group winner in front of 2nd place Chelsey Couch. Morgan Webber was third. Lauren Stephenson won the 10-12 age group with a 116, followed by Anne Taylor Hough and Savannah Goodman. In the 8-9 age group, Jensen Castle edged her younger sister Jalin for the winning trophy. The top four overall finisher age 13 and over – which include Higgins, Talbert, Bradshaw and Dunnagan, were invited to represent South Carolina in the fourth annual Georgia-South Carolina Girls’ Challenge Match, a match-play team competition between the two states. This year’s competition takes place August 8-9 at Oldfield Golf Club in Okatie, SC near Hilton Head.
