Dawn
Woodard of Greer, SC and playing out of the Thornblade Club
successfully defended her 2008 WSCGA Stroke Play Championship
by winning the 2009 version of the Women’s State Amateur
at Seabrook Island. The Ocean Winds golf course at Seabrook
was the site of this event and proved to be a worthy opponent.
Woodard finished with a 2 over par 74 and three day total
of 227 that was well earned. Lea Venable finished as the
Runner-Up 6 shots back with a total of 233. Coming in third
was Wallace Hamerton from Bluffton. These same three ladies
competed in the United States Golf Associations Women’s
State Team Championship and finished in 5th place out of
the 49 states entered. Woodard finished 2nd overall in the
individual competition.
Susan Harden of Beaufort
won the State Division in a one hole sudden death playoff
over Nancy Dodge from Gilbert. Both players carded a total
266 for the 3 days. Finishing in third place was Tori Langen,
the Tournament chairperson from Seabrook. Frankie Garber
from Florence and Ellen Miller from Pawleys Island finished
tied for 4th place at 269.
Christine Schaible
of Mt. Pleasant was the overall net winner of the Riccoboni
Trophy with a three day net total of 228.
Kim Abbott from Bluffton
was the winner of Flight 2 in the Championship Division
with Louanne Gonsalves finishing second and Stephanie Van
Inwagen third. In the State division, the second flight
was won by Chris Shadoan from Taylors with Marty Corley
2nd and Tammy Merritt 3rd. Jo Kammerer from Charleston won
the third flight with Juanita Rosenfeld coming in 2nd and
Carolyn Elsey finishing 3rd.

Carolina Golf Association would like to thank the Seabrook
Island Club, golf professional Brian Thelan, tournament
co-chairmen Tori Langen and Banner Hughes, the Seabrook
members, and all of the many volunteers for hosting this
Championship.
