Dawn
Woodard of Greer, SC and playing out of the Thornblade Club
successfully defended her 2009 WSCGA Stroke Play Championship
by winning the 2010 version of the Women’s State Amateur
at Spring Valley Country Club. Woodard of
Greer has won the past three consecutive WSCGA Stroke Play
Championships. Along with this title, Woodard currently
hold the 2010 WSCGA State Team title and the 2010 Match
Play title. Dawn shot a 76 in the final round to win by
5 shots over former champion Lea Venable of Simpsonville.
Another WSCGA Champion, Karen Ferree from Hilton Head finished
3rd.
Nancy
Dodge, the 2009 State Division runner-up, held on to her
second round lead to win the State Division over Inga Ivey.
Dodge shot a closing round 80 for a 3 day total of 236.
Ivey of Myrtle Beach shot a final round 84 for a 3 day total
of 242.
Also in the State Division, Jan Bowers of Easley defeated
Jackie Bennett in a 1 hole play-off
to win the 2nd flight and Linda Miller of Taylors captured
the 3rd flight in the State Division by shooting a 3 day
total of 274.
The Myrtice Riccoboni Trophy, which is the only net prize
of the championship, was won by Hermine Smith from N. Charleston
with a net total of 212.
The Women’s South
Carolina Golf Association would like to thank Director of
Golf Mike Birdsell, Head golf professional Chad Martin,
tournament co-chairmen Rose Matera and Sheila Antonucci,
the Spring Valley members, and all of the many volunteers
for hosting this Championship.
