Fournil playing out of Forest Lake Club won her second Women’s
Stroke Play State Amateur at the Daniel Island Club in Charleston.
Fournil, of Columbia, held the lead wire
to wire and finished two shots ahead of Catherine Shealy.
Shealy, also from Columbia finished with a 75-232 total,
while three-time winner Lea Anne Brown of Mt. Pleasant and
Cathy Hill of Columbia tied third at 233.
Louise
Givens of Columbia, shot a closing 75 to win the State Division
title by three shots over runner-up Cecelia Barksdale from
Murrell Inlet. Betty Armbruster from Simpsonville finished
3rd.
Also in the State Division, Jeannie Hillock of Kiawah Island
defeated Jackie Bennett, also from Kiawah, in a 2 hole play-off
to win the 2nd flight. Debbie Weber of Aiken took the 3rd
flight in the by shooting a 3 day total of 256. Toni Buerkert
from Columbia won the 4th flight over Sookie
Harris of Beaufort.
The Myrtice Riccoboni Trophy, which is the only net prize
of the championship, was won by Cecelia Barksdale with a
net total of 212.
The
Women’s South Carolina Golf Association would like to thank
Director of Golf Bobby Donnellan and his staff, tournament
co-chairmen Michel Smith and Nancy Lamb, the Daniel Island
members, and all of the many volunteers for hosting this
Championship.
