WSCGA STROKE PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

2001 CHAMPION LEA BAGWELL

Lea Bagwell from Simpsonville, SC won the 2001 Stroke Play Championship held at Thornblade Club in Greer, SC. Heading into the final 18 holes on Friday, Kim Abbott of Columbia held a one-shot lead over Lea Bagwell. Cecilia Barksdale, the defending champion, and Vicki Hillen were tied in third place three shots off the lead. Hillen and Bagwell finished the final round tied in first place as Hillen finished with a strong 70 and Bagwell with a fine 72. The Championship would go extra holes. After exchanging pars on the first sudden-death hole, Lea sealed the Championship win with a par on the second hole.

The Women’s South Carolina Golf Association would like to thank all of the players, and the Thornblade Club for hosting the event.
