2005 WSCGA STROKE PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

    The Reserve at Woodside Plantation

SEPTEMBER 20-22, 2005

Aiken, SC

Former two-time WSCGA Stroke Play Champion Lea Anne Brown of Mt. Pleasant added to her trophy case by winning the 2005 playing of this event. Contested at The Reserve Club at Woodside Plantation, Brown entered the final round tied with Kristine Berger of Hilton Head Island, each with a two day total of 149. One shot back was former champion Lea Bagwell Venable from Simpsonville.  Lea Anne knew that her previous two wins in this event would be to her benefit and came out firing and birdied holes 1 and 2. She finished the front nine with a 3-under 33 and was well on her way to her third Stroke Play Championship victory. Brown finished with a 3-under 69 for a seven shot win over second place finisher Cecilia Fournil of Columbia. Fournil was the only other contestant that recorded an under par round shooting 70 on the final day.  Kristine Berger and Lea Bagwell-Venable tied for 3rd.

Other flight winners include Yoshiko Mizuno, Charlotte Stewart, Rhonda McCauley, Russell Holliday, and Dana Halliday.  The winner of the low net Myrtice Riccoboni Trophy was our overall Champion Lea Anne Brown.

The Women’s South Carolina Golf Association would like to thank The Reserve at Woodside Plantation, Head Professional John Keller and staff, and co-chairmen Barb Magrath and Patti Kalin along Judy Sanders and the many volunteers.
